In an interview with journalists as reported by Punch, the cleric noted that those who are mostly affected when elections are rigged in the country, are the ordinary Nigerians.

He however noted that the average Nigerian who feels his vote has been bastardized is the one who should be in court complaining. But since they are not the ones that contested in the election, Onaiyekan said the presidential election petition court should ensure there’s live broadcast of the proceedings so that every Nigerian can be carried along.

He said “one thing Nigerians don’t seem to realize is that when elections are rigged, it’s not the contestants or politicians that are worst hit. Those who are the most impacted are me and you. We are the ones who should be complaining in court that my votes have been bastardized. But, they tell me I can’t go to the court because, I didn’t contest the election. If we can’t go and make our case, let’s see what is happening inside there at least.”
