The APC National Working Committee zoned the Senate President for the South-South, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and the Senate Vice President for the North-West, Senator Barau Jibrin, as well as the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the North-West, Hon. Abass Tajudeen, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives for the South-East, Hon. Ben Kalu.

According to Punch News, The pro-Tinubu group in a statement issued by its National Director General and Special Assistant to the APC National Youth Leader for Youth Empowerment (North West), Pharm. Ahmed Gana Mohammed said the agreement was in the interest of the party. Continue Reading>>>>

Mohammed, however, described those opposed to the zoning of the party as non-progressives.

According to him, the National Working Committee is responsible for managing the party and implementing the decisions of the National Executive Committee (Section 13.4 of the APC constitution).

“The APC Constitution prevails (Article 2(I)). The agreement is constitutional as Section 20.2 (ii) provides that candidates for elective offices shall be by consensus, therefore, we believe that the zoning agreement is in the best interest of the party.

“We, therefore, wish to state unequivocally that we fully support the party’s agreement. Other party members are also free to express their opinions, as we have done.

“We are aware that some members disagree with the NEC agreement, but they have not given us any tangible reason to question the party’s zoning agreement. Rather, their agitation has made us aware that there are some elements within the party and at the top that are not progressive.

“Those who have decided to oppose and question the party’s zoning arrangement are showing the card of some voters from some parts of the country,” he said.

“We have a vested interest in who will eventually become the Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Speaker of the Assemblies of our respective states because we have invested time and resources and worked for the formation of the executive arms that constitute one of the branches of government and also for the people’s representatives as legislators where our party, the APC, had the majority and also for the continuation of the APC as the ruling party.
