Apart from the fact that opposition parties (Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party) alleged rigging, others petitioned that Bola Tinubu did not poll 25% of the votes in the Federal Capital Territory. And this sparked a debate on whether it is a requirement for a candidate to score such a percentage of votes from the FCT or not.

In a recent footage, which has gone viral online on social media platforms, the media expert, Kadaria Ahmed argued that not polling 25% is problematic, since it is part of the requirements by the electoral law. Continue Reading>>>>

According to Kadaria Ahmed, who is the CEO of Radio Now 95.3FM Lagos, polling the highest votes is part of the requirements but scoring 25% in Abuja is also a major requirement.

Ms Kadaria said, during an interview with Arise News Television: “Highest number of votes is the first condition. The second condition is that you must win 25% votes across 2/3 of  Nigeria’s states which is 24 states plus which is an ‘And’ FCT. This means that you must win 25% (total votes) in FCT. So, even if you win those 24 states, you must win 25% in FCT. If you win 24 states and fail to get 25% In FCT, There is a problem.”
