Renowned Nigerian politician Reno Omorki has sparked a debate on social media with a thought-provoking statement he made on his official Twitter handle. Omorki, known for his outspoken nature, shared an anecdote about the experiences of two prominent figures in Nigeria, Shehu Musa Yar’adua and Aliko Dangote, during their visits to Lagos.

In his tweet, Omorki highlighted that when Shehu Musa Yar’adua, who later became Nigeria’s second-in-command, initially visited Lagos, the people on the bus he boarded chose to alight rather than ride with someone they perceived as a “Gambari,” a term often used to refer to people from Northern Nigeria. Omorki further drew attention to Aliko Dangote’s journey to Lagos nearly five decades ago. At that time, Dangote faced mockery and discrimination, being referred to as an “aboki,” a term often used derogatorily to describe people from Northern Nigeria. However, fast forward to the present day, and Dangote has become a symbol of success and entrepreneurship in Nigeria. Recently, his refinery project garnered praise and recognition from the country’s elite.

The underlying message of Omorki’s statement is clear: one should not allow the way others treat them to determine their self-worth. The stories of Yar’adua and Dangote serve as powerful examples of how individuals can defy societal prejudices and stereotypes to achieve remarkable success.
